The Fourth of July is a fun holiday. We celebrate America’s independence, bar-b-que, and watch fireworks. I have many good memories watching the fireworks on July 3 (yes, in Milwaukee the largest fireworks display actually happens July 3).
At the same time, the Fourth of July does have a number of health hazards to be aware of:
- Firework safety: Accidents happen
- Safety on the road: Over 5,000 people were killed in drunk driving accidents in the U.S. over the previous 4th of July weekend.
- Air quality: Pollution from fireworks means that the Fourth of July has some of the worst air quality of the year
- Healthy food: Easier said than done, but you can opt for some healthier desserts.
In short, enjoy the holiday, but stay safe.
